Macquarie University (MU), 2002-present

Tutor and Research assistant

Macquarie University, 2000-2002

Engineer

Nanjing Marine Radar Institute, Nanjing, P. R. China, 1994-1999

Assisstant Engineer

Nanjing Marine Radar Institute, Nanjing, P. R. China, 1991-1994

·        Develop an GA/FDTD method, which combines the finite-difference time-dome method and genetic algorithms, to design and optimise periodic metamaterials

·        Developing an FDTD method to analyse the periodic metamaterials as well as the antennas based

·        Develop a band-notched ultra-wide-band (UWB) monopole based on metamaterials

·        Develop an UWB dielectric resonant antenna (DRA)

·        Developing several very compact planar monopole antenna supporting GSM900, 1800, 1900 and all other systems working in 1.7 – 2.0 GHz. An application for an international patent based on this work is under preparation.

·        Developing a class of revolutionary multiband antenna principle that led to the world’s smallest quad-band antenna for wireless computer networks. It supports all IEEE WLAN standards worldwide (802.11a, b, g, j) and four associated frequency bands. It is also the cheapest because it can be printed directly on the system board using standard printed-circuit technology. It is an ideal single antenna for a wireless mobile terminal because it radiates very efficiently in almost every direction. This research led to a provisional patent application in USA and a research grant from Cisco Systems, USA, worth 84,000 $US.

·        Designing broadband and multiband antennas for wireless computer networks, other wireless communication systems, mobile communications and GPS/non-GPS locating systems, including microstrip antennas, monopole antennas, E-shaped patch antennas, dielectric-resonator antennas (DRA), planar inverted-F antennas (PIFA), stacked patch antennas, hybrid resonator antennas, wide slot antennas.

·        New theoretical methods in Electromagnetics, including new closed-form Green’s functions for microstrip and other layered structures, new close-form frequency-domain Method of Moments, The in-house MoM code was developed.

·        The head of a eight-member team, in charge of a project to develop a “4m´4m frequency-scaned Radar antenna system” which began on Jan., 1996. I left the team on March, 1999 before the completion of the project because I would start my PhD study in Macquarie University.

·        As a head in charge of the project “The Large broadband, Low-sidelobe, Wide-scanned Frequency-scanned Antenna array”. This radar antenna array mainly comprises Low-sidelobe slotted-waveguide linear arrays and serpentine waveguides. The project was completed by the end of 1995. The antenna array gives high performance in terms of the designs of the sidelobe level and the serpentine, passed the appraisal by authoritative experts and obtained the 2nd prize from China State Shipbuilding Corp. and the 3nd prize from China Ship Research & Development Academy, respectively, on June 1996.

·        Engaging in the development of the project “Research of Adaptive Beamforming(ADBF)”. I was in charge of the application of Hopfield neural network to adaptive antennas. The project passed the appraisal by authoritative experts by the end of 1994 and obtained two 2nd prizes from China Ship Research & Development Academy and China State Shipbuilding Corp., respectively, on June 1995.

·        Researching the aperture matching problems of the planar phased array. Using modal method to analyse and design the aperture matching problems of the periodic planar phased array loaded by dielectric.

EDUCATION:

Doctoral degree in Electronic Engineering, August 1999 - August 2002

MACQUARIE UNIVERSITY, Australia

Thesis on New Closed-Form Green’s Functions and Moment Methods for Layered Microstrip Structures and Antennas.

The analysis of Microstrip, Dielectric Resonator and Slot Antennas using the new closed-form Green’s functions for layered microstrip structures and several efficient and rigorous moment methods I developed.

Master in Telecommunication and Electronic Systems, September 1988 - April 1991

Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications (NUPT)

Thesis on The Study on Practical Wire Antannas

Design and optimise a U-Y high gain antenna array. .A novel combination of the conjugate gradient method with the fast Fourier transform technique was developed to solve the large scatterer problems. Employing the combination technique and pocklington equation, several dielectric-coated wire antennas were analyzed.
