Bachelor Degrees in Electronics

Electronics and Communication Systems can be studied within the following three-year programs.

Adding an Honours year or transferring to a Bachelor of Engineering Degree can lead to better qualifications for the work force or to postgraduate course work or research through a place with one of the research groups in the Department.

It is possible to transfer to any of these programs in second or third year.

Transfer

Generally students may transfer between the various BSc in Electronics programs, or to the Bachelor of Engineering, provided that performance is equivalent to that required for entry.

For transfer to the second year of the BE, for example, requires a Grade Point Average of at least 2.25 (credit average) and at least 18 credit points and/or approval of the Head of Department.

Articulation and Transfers

Students may transfer from other institutions and between the various degree programs provided that performance is equivalent to the entry requirement. Exemptions for previous study at Macquarie is automatic, whereas study at other institutions is assessed by an Exemptions Officer.

Transfers into the BE degree program

If you are currently enrolled at Macquarie University, you may be eligible to graduate with the new degree of Bachelor of Engineering in Telecommunications Engineering provided you satisfy the following conditions:
  1. You must apply to transfer before graduating from your current degree program. This means you would end up with a BE (e.g. rather than a BSc or BTech), and not two different degrees. Current requirements for transfer to the BE are a GPA of 2.25 or higher, completion of 18 cp, and/or approval of the Head of Department.
  2. You must satisfy the requirements for the BE degree. These requirements are defined in the Handbook, and a recommended program indicating core and optional units is available on the Electronics website. Recommended programs designed specifically for BTech students considering transferring into the 3rd or 4th year of the BE are available.

In summary, to be eligible for a BE degree you must complete a total of 96 cp ( 4 years of study) and there is a requirement to complete at least 12 weeks of approved industry experience.

After checking the core and optional units listed in the recommended programs it will be apparent that transfer to the BE after 1st year of another ICS degree program is likely to be possible without any loss of credit, however there may be some loss of credit if transferring after 2nd year, and it would be unusual to transfer to the BE after completing 3 years of another degree program without any loss of credit.
